What is a Temporal Brow Lift?
A temporal brow lift, also known as a lateral brow lift or mini brow lift, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure targeting the outer third of the brow and forehead. This procedure is ideal for correcting lateral brow ptosis — where the outer eyebrow droops, creating a tired or heavy appearance around the eyes.
Unlike a full brow lift, the temporal brow lift uses a small incision hidden discreetly within the hairline near the temple to lift and reposition underlying tissues and muscles, smoothing wrinkles and restoring a youthful contour. It is performed under local anaesthetic by our award-winning surgeons at Cosmetic Surgery of The Royal Liver Building, a CQC-registered clinic, allowing you to return home the same day with minimal discomfort.

How is the Procedure Performed?
- A small 10mm incision is made just inside the hairline near the temple.
- Underlying soft tissue and muscle are gently lifted and anchored to elevate the outer brow.
- Fine sutures close the incision, leaving minimal and well-hidden scarring.
- The procedure typically takes 45 to 60 minutes per side.
Benefits of a Temporal Brow Lift
- Natural, subtle rejuvenation: Enhances the outer brow without dramatic changes.
- Reduced drooping: Lifts sagging outer brows and reduces hooding of the lateral eyelid.
- Minimal downtime: Most patients return to daily activities within a couple of days.
- Hidden scars: Incision is concealed within the hairline.
- Performed under local anaesthetic: Safer with quicker recovery compared to general anaesthesia.
Who is Suitable?
Ideal candidates are those experiencing mild to moderate drooping of the outer brow or lateral eyelid hooding who seek a refreshed, alert appearance without the invasiveness of a full brow lift. This procedure is not designed to address deep forehead wrinkles or central brow ptosis—other treatments may be recommended in those cases.
Risks & Considerations
As with any surgery, risks include bruising, swelling, temporary numbness, infection, and possible scarring. The procedure aims for subtle enhancement, so dramatic changes are not expected. Any asymmetry from pre-existing conditions may persist. Rare complications like nerve irritation or prolonged tightness are possible but uncommon.
Related Procedures
- Direct Brow Lift Surgery – For broader brow elevation including the central brow.
- Brow Pexy – A minimally invasive suture technique for brow elevation and reshaping.

Recovery & Aftercare
- Mild to moderate swelling and bruising around temples and upper eyelids are normal.
- Temporary sensations of tightness, numbness, or pressure may occur near the incision.
- Sutures are usually removed after 7 days or dissolve on their own.
- Patients are advised to avoid strenuous activity for 3–4 weeks.
- Cold compresses, elevated sleeping, and careful wound care aid recovery.
- Sun protection (SPF 50) recommended on the incision once healed to prevent pigmentation.
